ABOUT WWHSPC

ABOUT US

Sponsored by our Library Media Program, the Wilson High School Poetry Club is an extracurricular program that provides weekly spoken word writing and performance workshops for interested scholars. It, also, trains them in the art and culture of competitive slam poetry.

Special thanks to our founding organization, the DC Youth Slam Team, a division of Split This Rock.  They provide support to our program through sponsor training, teaching poets, team coaches and/or creating safe spaces to practice, perform and compete.

SlamTeam Update

2013 SLAM TEAM CHANGES ITS NAME..March 22, 2013.

Our 2013 LTAB DMV Slam team has changed their name. COLLIDE-A-SCOPE has adopted the name of its predecessor, Motley Society. That means at the festival in May, our battle cry wil be "  MOTLEY SO-CI..."

BIRTHING A SLAM TEAM

 LTAB TEAM "MOTLEY SOCIETY"

It took the founding slam team hours of candid discussion and research to craft its moniker - "Motley Society"

Motley (adj) inconsistently or incompatibly varied in appearance or character - Oxford Living Dictionary

Society (noun)  An organization or club formed for a particular purpose or activity - Oxford Living Dictionary

Members of our initial 2013 slam team were selected through a series of in-school slams. A combination of writing prowess, performance merit and demonstrated commitment (or lack thereof) continues to shape and prune the final competing team as determined by consensus of its members, coaches and sponsor.
